Indianapolis Motor Speedway Welcomes Taylor Swift And Swifties To Town

Nov 04, 2024

IndyCar and Indianapolis Motor Speedway honors Taylor Swift and the Eras Tour with a specially ... [+] designed car and helmets to commemorate each of the entertainer's concert tours.

In a city that hosts the world’s largest single-day paid sporting event in the world, the Indianapolis 500, big events are something Indianapolis does very well.

This weekend, the Capital City of Indiana has been invaded by arguably the world’s biggest entertainer, Taylor Swift, and her legion of Swifties.

Swift’s Eras Tour opened a three-night concert schedule at Lucas Oil Stadium on Friday night, November 1. The Tour continues with concerts Saturday night, November 2 and Sunday night November 3.

All three concert dates have been sold out for months and according to Seat Geek, tickets for the November 2 show begin at $2,171 with a high of $9,008 for each of four tickets in Row 15 of Section 143.

According to the Indianapolis Star, 69,000 fans attended the Friday night November 1 concert at Lucas Oil Stadium – the largest concert crowd at the home of the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts.

One of those fans was Caitlin Clark, the WNBA’s Rookie of the Year with the Indiana Fever.

Big crowds for big events is something that makes Indianapolis famous. The crowd at this year’s 108th Indianapolis 500 was announced at over 330,000 by Penske Entertainment officials. Indianapolis Motor Speedway president Doug Boles said was within 3,700 of a complete sellout.

When the Indianapolis Motor Speedway last had a complete sellout, it was 350,000 for the 100th Indianapolis 500 in 2016.

Lucas Oil Stadium hosts a variety of major events in Indianapolis. It was the home of Super Bowl XLVI when the New York Giants defeated the New England Patriots 21-17 on February 5, 2012. The College Football Playoff National Championship was held at Lucas Oil Stadium on January 10, 2022.

It is the annual home of the Big Ten Championship Game in football.

It has been the host venue of the NCAA Means Final Four in college basketball in 2010, 2015 and 2021 and will also host the Final Four in 2026 and 2029.

The Indianapolis Colts won the 2009 American Football Conference Championship Game against the New York Jets 30-17 on January 24, 2010.

It was also the home of All-Star Saturday during the NBA’s All-Star Weekend this past February with the All-Star Game played a few blocks away at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, home of the Indiana Pacers of the NBA.

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway welcomed Swift to the Circle City through a unique “IMS/IndyCar collaboration that began earlier this week on social media.

The creative program included designing a Taylor Swift-inspired IndyCar race car, and in collaboration with Bell Helmets, IMS artists have customized 11 helmets to represent each of Taylor’s eras.

The show car was displayed at the main entrance of the Indianapolis Convention Center, where over 200,000 visitors are expected to stop for merchandise and refreshments.

The 11 helmets will be showcased at hotels across the city.

IMS/IndyCar is working with Swift Alert App, which boasts nearly 400,000 social media followers across X, Instagram and TikTok, who will host an in-app activation allowing fans to track down their favorite Era’s helmet while exploring Downtown Indy and learning about the rich history of the NTT IndyCar Series, the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge and female race car drivers who have competed in all forms of motorsports.

After the display, the helmets will be auctioned off with proceeds benefiting Women in Motorsports North America (WIMNA).

In addition to the helmet display, the tallest building in Indiana, the JW Marriott Hotel, put a huge decal of Swift on the side of its hotel, something it has done for the Indianapolis 500, and other major sporting events that have come to this uniquely Midwestern metropolis.

Indianapolis has many nicknames, from “Circle City,” to “Crossroads of America” to the “World Capital of Auto Racing.”

The first weekend in November, it has become the center of the “Swifty Universe.”

"We've gotten to take The Eras Tour all over the world this year,” Swift told Billboard when asked why the Eras Tour wraps up in Indianapolis. “In 2024, we've gone to Australia, Asia, we spent all of our summer in Europe, and we decided: We have got to bring this tour in front of the most dedicated, passionate, enthusiastic, excitable, loud fans.

“So we decided that the very last U.S. city on The Eras Tour would, in fact, be right here in Indianapolis, Indiana. And I can already tell we made the best decision possible.”
